Very true. I noticed one interesting thing on the Gentoo site the other day. They have this "bug-killing day" type thing (not what it's called, but if you go to the Gentoo site you'll see it... the squishing day is this saturday). Essentially, it's a contest to see how many bugs can be squished. Not reported, but squished. Everyone is on IRC and it's pretty much open the entire saturday... as long as it's saturday somewhere in the world.

Very cool idea. There are prizes for the most squished bugs, etc. Something like that not only builds community (via havoc in an IRC channel for a day), but can really lead to concerted bug squishing because "points" are based on the bugs you fix (patches, etc.) rather than just the bugs you report.

No you're right. Linux distro are becoming more and more buggy and you know why ? because the system is becoming more and more complex but nobody doesn't care to really carefully designed it. Eeven worst, they code ( essentially to add features first ), and then afterwards they eventually try to optimised it and thus because of the way actual OpenSource software works : realease early, release often, especially if you want your software to be successfull.

That's unfortunate. It's also unfortunate to see that we release so buggy beta/alpha release ... if peoples are testing a completly broken system, they will have a bad feeling about the distro. That's why I called for some bug squashing days and also to dedicate testers to some packages to avoid regressions because I knew/notice that packagers/mainteners didn't always test their packages ( that's also why i'm not packager because I can't think about packaging software without testing it ).
