Secure Connections to PostgreSQL

This week’s TechMail is Secure Connections to PostgreSQL which goes a little bit into the many different possible authentication methods you can use with the PostgreSQL database server, how it differs from MySQL, and illustrates why, at least from a security standpoint, I much prefer PostgreSQL (although I don’t say that since I try not to show prejudice in technical articles).

    Hello,

Before anything, thank you for reading this, and sorry to have to post it here, but I prefer using your blog rather than borrowing you at work :)

I’m a french student, in first year of university in mathematics and computer science. As a part of our studies, we have what we call ‘PPP’, Personal and Professional Project, which basically means that we’re supposed to grab a few information about the kind of job we’d like to do, and ask a few questions to people who actually work/contribute in this kind of job.

Here are the facts, I’m pretty interested in OS and software security, and, as you’re a member of Mandriva security team, I was wondering you might be a good person to contact. So have I a few questions about this job, would it be possible for you to give me some answers ? It won’t take you much time, but I guess I could find more questions if you’re interested in sharing your personal experience. If not by mail, we could meet on IRC or Jabber, it’s up to you.

Anyway, thank you really for giving an attention to this mail. I know you must be busy and have a lot enough to think with the great job you’re doing, but it will be helpful if you could give me a tiny help with this project. So, good bye, hope you’ll answer this request.

Sure, you can email me at my mandriva address (vdanen@), or you can hop on IRC (probably easier and faster for you). I tend to idle all the time on freenode in the #annvix channel.
