I think Mandriva is in the process for that.
Since 2007.0, design is better (see desktop background).
Websites are better and better (see the start page, hcl, etc.).

We definitely need more of that.

Oh, I'm not saying design is everything. Obviously you can make something look good and be utter garbage. But that's where user experience and emotion comes into play. If it's garbage, the emotion and experience will be negative. If the design is good and appeals and really brings out good emotion, and you do that consistently, customers will be more forgiving of the odd "oops" because it's not the norm. If the "norm" is a bad experience, the customer will associate that with every product belonging to the brand/company.

So no, it's not just design (but, keep in mind, design isn't just "looks").

You should really read the book. I can't do it justice. =) But design isn't just aesthetics. It's a top-to-bottom philosophy/buy-in to the idea that creating the greatest customer experience is the ultimate goal (be it from how your butt sits on a toilet to the service you get a restaurant to how often a program crashes on you).

The Information Age:the snyopsis of my view is that it's all about the user transmitting 1's and 0's.The system that facilitates this best will succeed. For this there are several tools, and superior design is only one of these.

I am a newbie that has tried them all(nix's),and mandriva is the best by far.It has a great potential to be the distro of choice. It has that cool, friendly touch. But it lacks the self promotion of other distro's.Also it could use about 10 trained bug reporters during the cooker cycle. The free lessons should be better put about so the newbie's will chose mandriva.
