NaNoWriMo: take two

So last year I participated in National Novel Writing Month but didn’t pull it off. The idea is to go nuts and write a 50k word novel during the month of November. People all around the world do it, and it’s quite fun but very time consuming and pretty crazy. Last year there was too much going on for me to really focus, so I think I hit about 20k words. Not quite an epic fail, but not nearly what I had set out for.

This year I’m at it again. I’ve got some vague ideas as to what to write about and it should be fun. I’m definitely aiming for 50k words this month so stuff like blogging and other “extra-curicular” activities will be on hold this month while I churn out a novel (or something vaguely resembling one).

    Good luck, Vince! :)

    Another friend of mine does this every year since the first one…he said at some point that the more he tried the closer he got to the 50k, so…keep trying…if not this year, then next, but I’m sure you’ll do it :)

    Thanks Vox! So far I’ve got a good start… each day you need to write 1667 words to make the goal, and yesterday I nailed out 2200.. and that’s at the hardest part (I think).. starting. Starting the darn thing and making it sound decent is always the challenge for me, but once it’s started then it takes on a life of it’s own. =)

    So, you got me to commit to this novel thing, I dusted off a story outline and started fleshing it out. Hopefully after I get past some of the mechanics of using OO for a novel length project it will go faster.

    Bill: cool! Me, I’m not so worried about anything more than getting the words on paper… well, I’m trying. I keep writing and editing at the same time which is awful and slows me down. Editing is for later! (My new mantra, maybe).

    Anyways, very cool to hear you’re doing it as well. I think it’s great fun. As of right now, I’m only 1 day behind in the word count so I don’t think I’m off to too bad of a start. =)
